![]() And they will overcome the combat limitations that Verant built their first MMO around combat should be built around off/def maneuvers to get a solid hit with a decent weapon/spell (that ends a fight), not whittling down an opponent's health bar with dozens (or more) of mortal-looking strikes/blasts. I believe that content-based MMO's for sane people will keep them playing for a few hours a month and not inspire them to quit their day jobs or otherwise reward the hardcore junkies first and foremost. I'm playing and basically liking SWTOR but I wouldn't recommend it to any non-MMOer - I won't even admit I play it to any non-MMOer. While the stories are nice this is an MMO first and it has all of the MMO warts that turn off most sane people. The only things left are the MMO grind in pvp that doesn't make sense (War Zones/BGs can be fun but can't be explained to a RPer and the healing dynamic can't be explained to an FPSer) and the MMO grind in PVE (lots of people gather around giant robots/monsters and whack away). ![]() PC Combat is clunky compared to other Star Wars games and space combat is lacking and not multiplayer. I believe that the problem with SWTOR is that there's no good reason for a non-MMO fan to play it. In fact some seem to enjoy living in hate and misery. As this site as proven time and time again, there will always be people who hate it. People who are holding out for that perfect Star Wars MMO will always be disappointed. So as a player who has been a fan of the franchise since the 1980s, I can't complain. Despite it's faults, it is a good game that gave me a lot of entertainment and I hope only the best for it. I had my issues with the game, but enjoyed it all the same. Despite all those issues, there was a decent population that enjoyed it for what it was. When jedi was put in the game, complaints came that they were breaking with the lore. Others complained that the game gave too much advantage to the melee professions and thus the game wasn't Star Warsy enough. Others complained about the numerous bug and glitches. Many complained that you can't have a Star Wars game without Jedi. I remember quite clearly numerous complaints with SWG right after it released. Despite what some would have you to believe around here, Star Wars fans are not some monolithic group that likes and dislikes the same things. The trouble is, not ALL of them were satisfied with one or the other for various reasons. The fans of Star Wars have found somthing that will be fun for them. But hopefully those who are fans of SW can find one day something that will be fun for them. It's not a game for everybody, some people love it, some hate it. I personally hope that SWTOR can only get better. I don't think that after all the hate the game got any developer (in right state of mind) will risk put their money into this IP as we all know you can't satisfy all, and to get a game which satisfy all you need a lot of money. My 2 cents.ĭon't think about new SW MMO in any foreseable future. Or maybe, just maybe, SoE be able to bring back SWG. If that happens maybe in 5-10 years we will get a real SW mmo that will do the IP justice. But you know EA will much sooner shut the game down for a tax write-off than do that. I dont think anything will turn SWTOR's uphill battle without shutting the game down to a complete overhaul of the game's structure. If they were doing what GW2 has done (Content, features, dungeons, abilities being free-then having a cash shop for extra items, bank/bag slot expansions, pets, etc. I dont think this will help SWTOR's current track at all, it may slow the decline somewhat but then later on, numbers will keep on going downhill. Knowing EA, they will try to milk this puppy dry. Plus I think SWTOR F2P route will be so hamstringed with limitations that it would get so danged annoying without having to use the cash shop. So many things wrong or broken about this game, but I wont go over the list of problems again, since there are so many threads about this topic. Alot has changed from around one year ago, when SWTOR hype was huge and was considered Wow's first real competitor. I still wont probably ever go back to it.
